About LIYO

Likhubula Youth Organization {LIYO} is a developmentā€“orientated, youth and Community Based Organization {CBO} which is situated in Mandala Village T/A Chikowi, Zomba District in Malawi. The Organization was founded on 10 may 2002, with the aim to improve the standard of living through volunteering within the community and to address the issues which are affecting the youth, orphans, people living with HIV/AIDS and disabilities, chronically ill and poor.

VISION
To have and realize a generation of the youth that is mentally and physically healthy and economically independent and improve living standard of orphans and other vulnerable groups

MISSION STATEMENT
To empower the youth and other vulnerable people through the awareness of their rights and responsibilities and equip them knowledge and skill related to health and economic Independence so as to enable them contributes fully towards their own development.

OBJECTIVES
  • To empowering young people with skills that will help mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS
  • To raise awareness on HIV/AIDS and STI's
  • To provide care and support to orphans, chronically ill and aged people
  • To promote behaviour change among the young people
  • To provide voluntary counseling and testing {VCT}
  • To promote the elimination of all forms of discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS
  • To promote agriculture and food security and enviromental degration
  • To promote gender and human rights issues
  • To promote quality education
  • Empowering the youth with economical and life skills and resources
TARGET GROUPS
The organizations target groups shall be as follows:
  • Youth
  • Orphan & other vulnerable children
  • Aged
  • People living & disabilities
  • The chronically ill & poor.
PROGRAMMS
The programs of LIYO shall include, but not limited to the following;
  • HIV /AIDS and Reproductive Health
  • Education
  • Human Right and Gender
  • Home Based Care
  • Economic empowerment and Life Skills Training
  • Early Childhood Development (ECD)
ACTIVITIES
The activities of LIYO shall include, but not limited to the following;
  • Sensitization meetings
  • Community outreach meetings
  • Door to Door Visits. (DDV)
  • Peer Education
  • Counseling
  • Training in different skills
  • Production and distribution of IEC materials
  • Technical assistance to members and the community at large
  • Focus group discussion (FGD)
  • Capacity building
  • Collaborating and networking with other organizations at national and international level.
